ALIGARH, September 19: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) City Girls’ High School organised a Pharmacovigilance Awareness Programme in collaboration with the Regional Training Centre (RTC) for the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital (JNMCH), AMU, to mark the 6th National Pharmacovigilance Week.
Based on the theme, “Promoting Rational Use of Medicines through Pharmacovigilance: A Step Towards Safer Healthcare,” the programme sensitised students about medicine safety, rational use of medicines and the importance of identifying and reporting Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs).
Prof. Syed Ziaur Rahman, Coordinator, RTC, explained that while medicines provide significant health benefits, they may also cause adverse reactions in some individuals. He emphasised the importance of reporting suspected ADRs and informed students about the PvPI helpline for reporting such reactions. The interactive session also encouraged students to share their experiences of adverse effects associated with prescribed medicines.
Welcoming Prof. Rahman and his team, Principal Mr. Md. Javed Akhtar expressed gratitude for the awareness initiative. He emphasised the importance of systematic collection and reporting of ADR-related data, noting that such information can help healthcare professionals and pharmaceutical companies identify problems and improve medicine safety.
The programme was managed by Ms. Nazish Siddiqui, Cultural Coordinator, and conducted by Ms. Urooja Khan. The session provided students with practical awareness about pharmacovigilance, responsible medicine use and the importance of reporting adverse drug reactions.
