Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya admissions: Eligibility and application process for girls in UP

The Uttar Pradesh government’s Atal Awasiya Vidyalaya scheme aims to provide free residential education to eligible children from specified beneficiary categories, including girls from families of registered construction workers and children orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic who meet the prescribed conditions.

The scheme is designed to help children from economically vulnerable backgrounds access quality education in a residential school environment. Admission is subject to eligibility requirements, an entrance examination and verification of documents.

Who can apply for admission?

Girls can apply for admission to Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas if they meet the eligibility criteria specified in the admission notification for the relevant academic year.

The principal eligible categories include children of construction workers registered with the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board, subject to the prescribed registration and membership conditions. Eligible children orphaned during the COVID-19 pandemic may also qualify under applicable provisions, including those covered by the Mukhyamantri Bal Seva Yojana.

According to the Uttar Pradesh government’s admission guidelines for the 2026–27 academic session, admissions were offered to Classes 6 and 9 through an entrance examination.

For that admission cycle, registered construction workers were required to have completed at least three years of Board membership as of November 30, 2025. The guidelines also limited eligibility to a maximum of two children per family.

These conditions apply to the 2026–27 admission cycle. Parents and guardians planning to apply in a subsequent academic year should check the latest notification for updated eligibility requirements.

Admission through an entrance examination

Admission to Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas is based on a selection examination. The subjects and assessment pattern vary according to the class for which admission is sought.

For Class 6, the entrance examination covers mental ability, arithmetic and language. For Class 9, the examination covers Hindi, English, mathematics and science. The published 2026–27 guidelines provided for the examination to be conducted in Hindi or English.

Applicants must complete the prescribed application process and submit the necessary documents. Selection in the entrance examination is provisional and does not automatically guarantee admission. Original documents must be presented for verification before admission is confirmed.

Parents should carefully review the relevant admission notification for details of the examination, application procedure, age limits, deadlines and documents required.

What does the scheme offer?

Atal Awasiya Vidyalayas are intended to provide eligible children with schooling alongside residential facilities. The scheme seeks to reduce barriers to education for children from specified beneficiary groups, particularly those whose families may face financial or other challenges in accessing educational opportunities.

For eligible girls, the residential model offers an opportunity to pursue their studies in a structured school environment. The programme aims to support access to education, while admission remains dependent on the prescribed eligibility conditions and selection process.

How can parents check admission details?

Parents and guardians interested in applying for their daughters should consult the latest official admission notification for the relevant academic session. It provides details of the classes open for admission, eligibility conditions, age limits, application dates, entrance examination and supporting documents.

Official information can be accessed through Uttar Pradesh government district websites and the Uttar Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The Lucknow district administration’s website also provides admission-related instructions and application links.

Applicants should rely on official notifications for the latest information and confirm that they meet all eligibility requirements before submitting an application.
