Australia add Maddinson, Harper to squad for SA Tests

Australia have added Nic Maddinson and Sam Harper to their Test squad to bolster their batting department for the upcoming series against South Africa following Josh Inglis’ injury that has already ruled him out of the opening Test.

Inglis fractured his finger during the ODI series and Australia were also handed a scare when Cameron Green suffered an abdominal strain. While Green is racing against time to fit for the first Test, Matt Renshaw, who was hit on his right hand during the third ODI, is expected to feature.

Maddinson’s inclusion in the squad completes a remarkable comeback for the 34-year-old who underwent treatment for testicular cancer in 2025. Harper, on the other hand, struck a century for Australia A this week.

“Sam gives us wicketkeeping cover as Josh continues his recovery while Nic provides flexibility throughout the batting order,” Chairman of selectors, George Bailey said.

The first Test is scheduled to begin on October 9 in Durban.
