BCCI postpones October 15 IPL conclave

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has postponed the joint review meeting on the IPL, scheduled for October 15 in Mumbai.

The meeting, involving IPL franchise owners, their chief executives, broadcasters and 13 state associations hosting matches, was scheduled to take place at the Taj Santacruz at 6 pm on Thursday. However, stakeholders received a communication from the BCCI/IPL authorities on Tuesday informing them of the postponement.

For now, it looks like the meeting has been deferred indefinitely. No new date has been communicated to the parties.

The postponement was necessitated because of a felicitation function of the Asian Games medallists by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that day. It is expected that both Indian men and women’s teams, among other Asian Games medallists, will attend the function in New Delhi. Top BCCI officials are expected to accompany them.

In the mail, the BCCI said the Prime Minister’s rendezvous with the Asian Games medallists apart, there were requests for postponement by some stakeholders.

“This is to inform you that the meeting with the IPL Franchise Owners, CEOs, IPL Hosting State Associations and Broadcasters, scheduled to be held on October 15, 2026, in Mumbai, has been postponed.

“The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India is scheduled to felicitate the Indian men’s and women’s teams for their outstanding performances at the recently concluded 20th Asian Games on October 15, 2026, in New Delhi. Accordingly, BCCI officials will be required to attend the felicitation ceremony,” BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said in his Tuesday evening mail.

“Additionally, requests have been received from various stakeholders seeking a postponement of the meeting. In view of the above, and with a view to facilitating maximum participation in person, it has been decided to postpone the meeting. The revised date and venue will be communicated in due course,” Saikia further wrote expressing regret for the “inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.”

With the New Delhi felicitation being a late addition to their itinerary, the Indian players will have to make an adjustment to their travel schedule. Instead of flying directly to Bengaluru from Hyderabad after the fourth T20I on Wednesday (October 14), the Indian players will travel to the national capital on Thursday before proceeding to Bengaluru for the fifth and final T20I against West Indies, scheduled for October 17.
