240 units of blood were donated by students and employees at a blood donation camp organized today at Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC) Landran by Jeevansh Community and the Department of Student Welfare CGC Landran in association with Rotary Club Chandigarh (which held this camp as part of Rotary District 3080, which comprises around 140 clubs covering Chandigarh, parts of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and parts of Uttar Pradesh). More than 300 students including faculty and staff members volunteered to donate blood during the camp. The blood units would be donated to the Rotary and Blood Bank Society Resource Centre, sector 37, Chandigarh, a joint venture between Rotary Club Chandigarh and Blood Bank Society of Chandigarh.
The camp was inaugurated in the presence of Dr. Gagandeep Bhullar, Director, Student Welfare and Alumni Affairs, Dr. Rajdeep Sigh, Campus Director, Ms. Tina Virk, President, Rotary Club Chandigarh, Mr. Arun Aggarwal, Director Community Services, Rotary Club Chandigarh, Mr. Shrey, Chairperson, Rotary Club Chandigarh, student coordinators from the Jeevansh community, faculty and students from the institution. Dr. Bhullar commended the donors for showing great enthusiasm for this noble initiative.
Ms. Teena Virk thanked the management, students and faculty members of CGC Landran including Dr. Gagandeep Bhullar, for making the camp a huge success. She further said that “Today our entire Rotary District is involved in organizing blood donation camps attempting to enter Guinness Book of Records with a path breaking blood collection units under the slogan of Raktdaan Mahakumbh.” She also underlined the importance of donating blood in addition to highlighting the commitment of Rotary and Blood Bank Resource Centre in sector 37 to helping people from all walks of life including those from economically weaker sections to get access to platelets and blood units.
The blood donation camp sought to encourage the young adults to get involved in selfless social service in addition to making them understand the importance of donating blood which can go on to save many lives. A dedicated teams of doctors conducted pre-medical tests while taking care of different medical requirements at the camp.
