The department of Biotechnology, Chandigarh College of Technology (CCT) CGC, Landran, organized a two-day national workshop and skill development training programme on ‘CRISPR-Cas in Genome Editing, AI & Next-Generation Biotechnology: Learning Practically for Professional Career’. The programme was conducted under the guidance of Dr. Narotam Sharma, Managing Director, Scientist and Head, CRIS DNA Labs, Dehradun.

The workshop provided students with experiential, hands-on training in CRISPR-Cas genome editing, molecular biology tools, bioinformatics tools for CRISPR guide design, Artificial Intelligence, Guide RNA design, CRISPR data visualization, data analysis and interpretation and computational approaches to genome-editing workflows. Practical sessions covered competent cell preparation, transformation, plasmid-based techniques, CRISPR workflows, gene silencing, guide-RNA design, computational analysis and data visualization.

These sessions provided participants with practical exposure to laboratory procedures and computational tools used in contemporary biotechnology research. The technical sessions were conducted by Dr. Ankita Singh, Deputy Director and Scientist, CRIS DNA Labs, along with Mr. Ritik Dogra and Mr. Vishal, Research Assistants, CRIS DNA Labs. The experts delivered scientific lectures, laboratory demonstrations and hands-on training. The programme also strengthened the academic-industry interface between CGC Landran and CRIS DNA Labs under the Centre of Excellence initiative. Dr. Palki Sahib Kaur, Director-Principal, CCT, CGC Landran, said, “Hands-on learning and industry-academia collaboration are essential for preparing students to meet the evolving demands of modern biotechnology. We extend our gratitude to Dr. Sharma and the team from CRIS DNA Labs for sharing their expertise and facilitating this specialized training programme. Initiatives such as this workshop provide our students with valuable exposure to emerging technologies and research methodologies, helping them develop the practical skills and scientific outlook required for future academic and professional opportunities.”
