The Tripura government has launched a state-level initiative to introduce school students to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and equip them with skills relevant to an increasingly technology-driven future. The ‘AI Utsav–Skill Competition 2026’ will provide students from Classes VI to XII studying in government schools across all eight districts of Tripura with access to free AI courses through the Skill India Digital Hub (SIDH), the national digital skilling platform operated by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The initiative is expected to cover around 1,920 government schools that have students from Classes VI to XII, Skill Development Director Pradeep Krishnaraj said. According to the state government, the initiative is intended to strengthen students’ digital confidence and help them develop skills that could be relevant in a rapidly changing technology landscape.
Students who successfully complete the AI courses will be able to download a national certificate through the Skill India Digital Hub. The certification will provide formal recognition of the learning undertaken by participating students while giving them early exposure to Artificial Intelligence.
Alongside the AI-focused initiative, Tripura has already begun implementing a comprehensive framework for the India Skills Competition. The framework has been developed in alignment with the global WorldSkills ecosystem and is intended to establish a structured process for identifying talented young people, providing them with specialised training and preparing them for skill competitions and future opportunities.
Under this framework, the state has identified 26 skill areas for training and development. These include graphic design technology, software application development, mobile applications development, web technologies, automobile technologies, cloud computing and cyber security. The identified areas also cover Industry 4.0, electronics, electrical installations, digital construction, ICT network infrastructure and mechanical engineering computer-aided design (CAD), among other emerging and technical skills.
Several designated institutions in Tripura will provide comprehensive support for candidates in their respective skill areas. These institutions include the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Agartala, Tripura Institute of Technology (TIT), MSME Tool Room & Training Centre and the National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology (NIELIT), Agartala. Their responsibilities will extend across the skilling process, including candidate screening, training, mentoring and preparation.
