Google Dreambeans launches in India with 13 Indian languages: What it does, how to use and cost | Artificial Intelligence News

Google has launched its experimental AI app Dreambeans in India, offering personalised illustrated stories using information from connected Google services. The app supports 13 Indian languages and English. Here’s how to use it, which languages are available, its eligibility requirements and what is known about pricing.

Google has brought its experimental AI app Dreambeans to India, making the country its first market outside the United States. Announced on November 3, the app supports 13 Indian languages along with English and is available on Android and iPhones. It turns information from a user’s Google account into personalised, illustrated stories about their interests, plans and daily activities.

Imagine getting a short illustrated story about a place you recently searched for, or an upcoming event mentioned in your calendar. That’s roughly what Dreambeans does. It uses information from Google services that users choose to connect, including Gmail, Photos, Calendar, Gemini, Search and YouTube. The app generates stories automatically, without requiring users to type prompts.

What is Google Dreambeans and how does it work?

Developed by Google Labs, Dreambeans creates a fresh collection of personalised stories each day. Users can open stories for more information, save them or share them with others.

Some stories can feature animated visuals created using Google’s Veo AI video model. The app is still experimental, so its suggestions may occasionally be irrelevant.

Which 13 Indian languages does Dreambeans support?

Dreambeans supports Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese and Nepali, along with English.

There is one limitation. Users can select only one language at a time. The app cannot currently produce stories mixing Hindi and English, for example, even if the connected Google services contain information in both languages.

How to download and use Google Dreambeans in India?

Getting started involves a few steps:

  1. Download Dreambeans by Google Labs from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store.
  2. Sign in using a personal Google account.
  3. Select the Google services you want to connect.
  4. Choose your preferred language and complete setup.
  5. Allow the app to prepare your personalised daily stories.

Users can later disconnect services, delete Dreambeans data and provide feedback on unwanted recommendations.

Is Google Dreambeans free and who can use it?

Dreambeans is available to Indian users aged 18 and above with personal Google accounts. It supports Android and iOS.

Google has not announced an India-specific subscription price. The app was made available free of charge to eligible users in the US, though its India announcement does not explicitly confirm pricing.

What about privacy?

Dreambeans needs access to selected Google services to personalise its stories. This could involve information from emails, photographs, searches and calendar entries.

Google allows users to choose which services they connect and disconnect them later. Still, people should review these permissions carefully, particularly before granting access to personal emails and photographs.
