Sharan Gopinath Kamble grew up in Tadwale village in Maharashtra in a family with limited financial resources. His father worked as a daily wage labourer and his mother sold vegetables. There was no electricity at their home, so Kamble studied under a kerosene lantern. To attend Classes 11 and 12, he reportedly walked nearly 12 km every day.Those circumstances did not end his educational journey. Instead, education became the route he chose to change his future. Kamble eventually completed a BTech from Walchand College of Engineering and an MTech from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru. He later turned down a private-sector offer reportedly worth around Rs 20 lakh a year to pursue a career in public service.
From a village without electricity to engineering
