India vs West Indies: Rovman Powell, Sherfane Rutherford reprimanded for breaching ICC Code of conduct

Rovman Powell and Sherfane Rutherford have been given an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. They have also been handed a demerit point each for their transgressions from the second T20I against India in Ranchi.

As per the ICC, Powell was found guilty of breaching Article 2.2 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match” and Rutherford was found to have breached Article 2.8, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”

Powell’s offence was hitting the ball away with his bat after being dismissed by Mayank Yadav in the sixth over of West Indies’ innings. In the 13th over, Rutherford yelled aggressively at the umpire for not giving a wide.

The charges on the pair were levelled by the on-field umpires Jayaraman Madanagopal and Rohan Pandit, third umpire Nitin Menon and fourth umpire Virender Sharma. Powell and Rutherford admitted their offences and accepted the sanctions.
