The discussion around Indians studying and working abroad has taken on a new dimension amid uncertainty over overseas employment and immigration policies.
Zoho founder Sridhar Vembu has urged Indians abroad to return and help build the country’s technology ecosystem, arguing that India has plenty of opportunities and problems that need solving. His appeal has also received support from political leaders such a former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Amid this, India Today recently published a story on the overseas education and careers of politicians’ children, including those who studied at universities such as Harvard, Oxford and Yale. This time, the focus shifts to the politicians themselves: leaders who studied at foreign universities, the qualifications they earned and the institutions they attended.
From former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh‘s economics degrees in the United Kingdom to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor‘s doctorate in the United States, overseas education has featured in the journeys of leaders across parties and generations.
