India’s economic growth story balances environmental sustainability and is ahead of Paris Convention targets by six years, said A Subramanian, Head of Strategy & Sustainability, Siemens India.

Delivering the graduation day address at SASTRA Deemed University, Subramanian stressed the importance of responsible economic growth for a sustainable environment and highlighted India as a global showcase as it emerges as a vibrant emerging economy. He also stressed the role of technology in sustainable growth, with opportunities in asset-heavy industries that contribute 75 per cent of India’s GDP.

Digital technology adoption in capital goods manufacturing, agriculture, transportation, power, etc., offers great potential for digital twins, industrial AI, decarbonisation platforms, smart grids, and additive manufacturing. He urged students to engage in a co-creator’s digital economy to create scalable value.

Connected mobility and AI

In another graduation day address, T Subramanian, CTO of BMW Techworks India, stressed the emerging role of connected mobility and how emerging technologies are changing user preferences. He urged today’s graduates to apply their theoretical skills to navigate sweeping changes transforming automobile manufacturing globally and, with the convergence of human and artificial intelligence, take calculated risks without fear of failure.

Leaders from both industries presented degrees to over 1,000 graduates from the Schools of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering at SASTRA Deemed University.
