The Indian Navy’s modern missile stealth frigate INS Trishul has arrived in Plymouth, UK. The warship will participate in Exercise Konkan-2026 with the Royal Navy.
The annual maritime exercise Konkan 2026 between India and the UK is a symbol of the strong maritime partnership between the two countries. Over the past two decades, the exercise has grown significantly in complexity and scope, leading to greater coordination and understanding between the two navies in maritime operations. Since its inception, Exercise Konkan has been an important pillar of defence cooperation between the two countries and demonstrates the commitment of both navies to strengthening maritime security.
The exercise is being conducted in two phases near Plymouth, UK from 8 to 15 October 2026. The first harbour phase includes various professional interactions, visits to each other’s ships, sports competitions, cultural events and warship visits for invited visitors.
During the sea phase, complex maritime operational exercises will be conducted between ships of both countries in all three domains i.e. air, surface and underwater. This edition of Exercise Konkan will include various air operational activities including landing and firing on each other’s ships, air defence, complex navigational maneuvers and anti-submarine exercises, making the exercise more challenging.
The exercise reiterates the two countries’ shared commitment to ensuring a secure, open and free maritime domain. It also reflects the comprehensive strategic partnership outlined in the ‘India-UK Vision 2035’.
Exercise Konkan 2026 will further strengthen the ability of both navies to operate effectively in complex maritime situations by promoting the exchange of best practices and mutual understanding. This exercise is a testament to the deep ties between the Indian and British Navies and their shared commitment to maintaining maritime peace and security.
