Pune: A practical education system enables good leadership to emerge in a democracy, said Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Radha Mohandas Agrawal, as the chief guest at the induction ceremony of the 22nd batch of Masters in Political Leadership and Government (MPLG), at MIT World Peace University.“Students entering politics should be ready to shoulder responsibilities along with social issues. MIT School of Government (MITSOG) students, along with practical education, should contest local elections by filing nominations,” said Agrawal in the presence of former MITSOG students and MLA Sumit Wankhede, MLA Hemant Ogle, and Andhra Pradesh Rajya Sabha MP Vijay Chintakayala, who were present as guests of honour.Agrawal said, “Politics does not require money, yet wealthy individuals are trying to bring it under their control. It is essential to change this mindset. A true leader is one who understands the problems of the people. Through their practical knowledge, several leaders, such as M. Karunanidhi, J. Jayalalithaa, and Giani Zail Singh, have carved out a distinct identity for themselves in politics. A person who loses in politics is responsible for their own defeat. Therefore, strive to become an excellent orator.”Hemant Ogle stressed on adopting practical perspectives in politics. “One should engage in social and political work by carrying forward the legacy of good political leaders. However, it is essential to exercise patience and carefully chart one’s course of action.”Sumit Wankhede asked the students to understand the distinct challenges of rural and urban areas. “Politics should be done for good work by understanding society, the country, and people’s feelings. Politics should be done based on values by observing everything.”Chintakayala said there can be no progress without knowledge. “MITSOG will shape the future of the nation and transform the direction of politics. Nation-building requires leaders who are dedicated to democracy.”The event was presided over by MITSOG founder and WPU executive president Rahul Karad. Karad said it is essential for educated and well-intentioned individuals to enter politics. “If politicians undergo proper training, improving the country’s governance and democracy will not take long. The SOG model is being implemented in various states across the country. The Government of India and state governments have also launched Youth Parliament initiatives. Additionally, we have signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with six Legislative Assemblies.”
