12 Korean universities interacted with over 1000 students in this one day event
Chennai : The Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Chennai in collaboration with The National Institute for International Education (NIIED), hosted the first-ever Study in Korea Education Fair in Chennai on September 20th, 2026, at The Leela Palace Chennai.
The one day education fair had 12 Korean universities such as ,Kangwon National University, Konkuk University Glocal Campus, Kyungdong University Global, Dongguk University, Chonnam National University, Busan Health Universityetc presented. Over 1000 students had the opportunity to interact with the Korean universities and receive one-on-one consultations, offering first-hand insight into academic programmes, admissions processes, and campus life in Korea.
Mr P Vishwanatahan, Honourable Higher Education Minister of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the event. “Tamil Nadu has always placed a strong emphasis on accessible, quality higher education and global opportunities for its students. The Study in Korea Education Fair is a valuable platform that connects our young people with leading Korean universities, programmes and opportunities for academic and research collaboration. I am confident that initiatives such as this will further strengthen educational ties between Tamil Nadu and the Republic of Korea and open new pathways for our students to engage with the world.” During his speech, Minister also emphasised on launching more Korean language centres with the support of ministry of higher education department of Tamil Nadu.
Consul General, Ms Hye Ran Chun on her welcome remarks shared “Education has become an increasingly important pillar of the Korea–India partnership, especially Tamil Nadu creating opportunities for students, researchers and institutions to connect and collaborate. The growing interest among students from South India in Korean higher education is particularly encouraging. Through the Study in Korea Education Fair, we hope to provide young Indians with greater access to Korea’s universities, scholarships and research opportunities, while further strengthening the people-to-people and institutional ties between our two countries”
NIIED has previously hosted Study in Korea Education Fairs in Delhi. This marks the first time the initiative is being extended to South India, reflecting the growing interest among students in the region to pursue higher education in Korea. The event ended with a networking event between Korean and South Indian institutions.
