Hyderabad : Mr. Ajay Gandhi, a 57-year-old Thalassemia Major patient from London, who has lived with the condition for nearly six decades, visited the Hyderabad Thalassemia & Sickle Cell Society (TSCS) today and shared his inspiring life journey, experiences, challenges, and the opportunities he has embraced despite living with a chronic blood disorder.
His interaction with hundreds of Thalassemia and Sickle Cell patients and their parents at the MR RR Auditorium at TSCS, along with Dr. Chandrakant Agarwal, President, TSCS, Dr. Suman Jain – Chief Medical Research Officer and Secretary – TSCS, Mrs. Ratnavali – Vice President -TSCS, Dr. Padma – Senior Research Scientist (TSCS), and Manoj Rupani, was deeply inspiring and immensely encouraging. Ajay spoke candidly about his childhood, health challenges, treatment journey, career, marriage, family life, and the determination that helped him build a fulfilling life despite the challenges posed by Thalassemia Major.
Reflecting on his nearly 57-year journey with Thalassemia Major, Ajay said that the condition is a part of his life but does not define who he is. He attributed his journey to determination, disciplined treatment, excellent medical care, family support, faith, and perseverance. His current test results also demonstrate the significant improvement achieved through decades of consistent treatment and care.
During his visit, Ajay wholeheartedly appreciated TSCS for providing comprehensive facilities and support for Thalassemia patients under one roof, completely free of cost. He expressed admiration for the Society’s efforts to serve thousands of patients, including many who travel from distant parts of the country, sometimes covering more than 1,000 kilometres to access care and support.

I was deeply impressed by the comprehensive support and facilities provided by TSCS, completely free of cost. I hope my story gives every patient the confidence to dream, pursue their ambitions, and face the future with courage and hope.”
