Kamil Pooran has earned his maiden West Indies call-up after being named in the 15-member squad for the five-match T20 2026 series against India in October.
The 20-year-old opening batter was rewarded for an impressive Caribbean Premier League campaign, where he scored 273 runs in eight innings at a strike rate of 159.64 and an average of 39.
Shai Hope will captain the West Indies cricket team against India, while Shimron Hetmyer returns to the T20I set-up after being given an extended recovery period following the CPL.
Quentin Sampson, who was part of the West Indies squad for the T20 World Cup earlier this year in India, has also been included.
Experienced all-rounder Jason Holder, however, has been rested for the series.
Rovman Powell, Romario Shepherd and Roston Chase are among the other experienced names in the squad, while Akeal Hosein and Gudakesh Motie provide the spin options.
Head coach Daren Sammy said the series would form part of West Indies’ preparations towards the next T20 World Cup in 2028.
“We are looking to build on the momentum from our series win against Sri Lanka, with the long-term goal of developing a strong core of players ahead of the next T20 World Cup,” Sammy said.
“The challenge of playing against the world champions at home will provide valuable preparation, allowing us to continue improving and developing both individually and as a collective unit.”
The five-match series will begin in Lucknow on October 6 before moving to Ranchi on October 9 and Indore on October 11. Hyderabad will host the fourth T20I on October 14, with the series concluding in Bengaluru on October 17.
The last India vs West Indies T20 series was played in 2023 in the Caribbean, which the hosts clinched 3-2.
