IISc Bengaluru leads India in THE World University Rankings 2027: The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 have been released on September 30, 2026. The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru has emerged as the highest-ranked Indian institution, securing 254th position globally.
Several other Indian institutions have also featured in the latest rankings, including Jamia Millia Islamia, Lovely Professional University (LPU), Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences and Shoolini University.
The 2027 edition evaluates 2,297 universities across 118 countries and territories. The rankings assess institutions on areas including teaching, research environment, research quality, industry connections and international outlook.
The Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru is the highest-ranked Indian institution in THE World University Rankings 2027, with a global position of 254.
IISc received an overall score of 57. Its reported indicator scores include 62.1 for teaching, 58.6 for research environment, 51.5 for research quality, 98.0 for industry and 31.1 for international outlook. Although IISc is India’s highest-ranked institution, it did not enter the global top 250 in the 2027 edition.
