Toronto Sixers have completed a landmark championship double, winning both the men’s and women’s titles in season 2 of Canada Super60 at BC Place in Vancouver.
The franchise celebrates the achievement as a first for franchise cricket in Canada and North America: one organisation securing both Men’s and Women’s championships in the same season. The double triumph represents an extraordinary accomplishment for the Sixers and a proud moment for Toronto’s cricket community.
Leading the men’s team was Trinidad and Tobago cricket icon Kieron Pollard, whose combined role as player, captain and head coach brought experience, composure and a winning mentality to the squad. The championship also marks Pollard’s first title as a coach, adding another milestone to his distinguished cricket career.
The Men’s championship squad included fellow Trinidadians Nicholas Pooran and Abdul-Raheem Toppin, strengthening the Caribbean connection at the heart of the Toronto franchise.
Pooran was named Player of the Tournament, capping an outstanding campaign with a match-winning 67 from just 23 balls in the final as the Sixers defeated Vancouver Anchors by five wickets to secure the title. The women’s team delivered equally significant success, securing back-to-back Canada Super60 championships. Under head coach Shanuka Dissanayake, captain Maddy Villiers and team manager Habeeba Bader, the squad demonstrated resilience, belief and collective determination to retain their crown.
Dissanayake’s preparation and guidance were central to building the confidence and unity that carried the team to another championship.
At the helm of the franchise is CEO Rizwan Mohamed, who was born in Trinidad and has been based in Toronto, Canada, for the past 25 years.
With five championship titles under his belt across his franchise leadership career, Mohamed has built a record that places him among the most successful franchise cricket executives in North America.
Mohamed was well supported by Toronto Sixers General Manager Omar Khan, whose experience and dedication were integral to the franchise’s preparations, team operations and championship campaign.
“This is an incredibly proud moment for everyone associated with Toronto Sixers. One tournament, two titles—God is great,” said Mohamed. “These championships belong to our players, coaches, support staff, management, ownership and everyone who worked tirelessly behind the scenes.”
Praise for Pollard
Pollard came in for special praise.
“Kieron deserves special recognition. Winning his first title as a coach while also leading the team on the field makes this achievement particularly special.
Seeing him lift the trophy alongside Nicholas Pooran, Abdul-Raheem Toppin and the entire squad is a moment we will cherish. Pooran being named Player of the Tournament is a fitting recognition of his exceptional contribution.”
Mohamm3ed added that, “our women’s team deserves tremendous credit for becoming champions for a second consecutive season. Shanuka, Maddy, Habeeba and every member of the squad have given this franchise so much to celebrate. I also want to recognise Omar Khan for his outstanding support throughout the campaign.”
