Quote of the Day by APJ Abdul Kalam: Knowledge without action is useless and…

by BollywoodNewsAndMovie

“Knowledge without action is useless and irrelevant. Knowledge with action brings prosperity.”

These words by Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, India’s former President and one of its most respected scientists, highlight the importance of putting knowledge into practice. As India observes his birth anniversary on October 15, his message remains closely connected to his lifelong encouragement of students to think, learn and turn their ideas into action.

Kalam shared this thought in his address at the First Child Education Summit in 2002. He spoke about the importance of thinking, curiosity and applying knowledge to improve individual lives and the country.

THE SCIENTIST WHO INSPIRED A GENERATION

Born on October 15, 1931, in Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu, Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam studied aeronautical engineering and became a key figure in India’s space and missile programmes.

He worked with the Defence Research and Development Organisation and the Indian Space Research Organisation, contributing to India’s defence and space research efforts.

In 2002, Kalam became the 11th President of India, serving until 2007. Widely known as the People’s President, he was particularly admired for his interactions with students and his efforts to encourage young people to pursue science, education and national development. He died on July 27, 2015, while delivering a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management, Shillong.

WHAT DOES THE QUOTE MEAN?

Kalam’s message draws a distinction between knowing something and using that knowledge to make a difference. Reading, studying and gathering information are important, but their value increases when people apply what they learn to solve problems.

For a student, this could mean using scientific concepts to conduct an experiment rather than simply memorising them. For a researcher, it could mean turning a discovery into a practical solution. For a country, it could mean applying education and scientific research to improve people’s lives.

Kalam connected thinking with action because he believed progress depended on people who could question, explore and act on their ideas. In his 2002 address, he encouraged children to remain curious about the world and learn from scientists whose questions led to discoveries.

His message was not simply to acquire more knowledge, but to use it purposefully.

MORE QUOTES BY APJ ABDUL KALAM

  • Thinking should become your capital asset, no matter whatever ups and downs you come across in your life.

  • Thinking is progress. Non-thinking is stagnation of the individual, organisation and the country.

  • What actions are most excellent? To gladden the heart of a human being, to feed the hungry, to help the afflicted

As India remembers Kalam on his birth anniversary, his words continue to connect education with a larger purpose: learning should not end with knowing something; it should begin with what we do with that knowledge.
