ALIGARH, October 14: The Department of Ilmul Amraz, Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a guest lecture on “Unravelling Tissue Processing Artefacts: From Recognition to Resolution” on October 13 to enhance MD scholars’ understanding of histopathological techniques and the identification of artefacts that can affect microscopic examination.
Dr. Shagufta Qadri, Assistant Professor, Department of Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, AMU, delivered the lecture, explaining the principles of tissue fixation, embedding and sectioning. She discussed common processing artefacts, including folding, tearing, chatter and staining errors, and outlined practical measures to minimise them and improve the quality of histopathological examination.
Using case-based examples and slides, Dr. Qadri demonstrated how processing artefacts can mimic or obscure pathological changes, emphasising the importance of their accurate identification in disease diagnosis.
Dr. Ataullah Fahad, Chairperson, Department of Ilmul Amraz, welcomed the speaker and highlighted the importance of academic interaction between Unani medicine and modern medicine. The session was attended by Dr. S. M. Ahmer, Dr. Nida Sultana, Dr. Mohsin Masood, Dr. Ishrat Ali, Atiya Samad and MD scholars from various departments of the Faculty of Unani Medicine.
The lecture concluded with an interactive discussion on tissue processing, section preparation and artefact recognition. Dr. Fahad presented a certificate of appreciation to Dr. Qadri in recognition of her contribution.
