Rana heads to Australia for medical assessment

by BollywoodNewsAndMovie

Bangladesh pacer Nahid Rana is set to leave for Perth, Australia, tonight for a medical assessment after experiencing difficulties during his rehabilitation from injury.

“There is no injury, but since he is a key player, we have opted to get a second opinion on his condition,” a Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) source said.

Rana, who has missed the Australia Test series, the subsequent Asian Games, the one-off Test against Afghanistan and will also miss the upcoming UAE tri-series due to a side strain, complained of back pain a few days ago.

It was learnt that the pacer had also experienced weakness around his hip, prompting the BCB to seek a second opinion from Australia.

Rana had been bowling over the past few weeks as he worked to build his workload to the required level. However, he has suffered a setback, with sources indicating that he has yet to regain adequate strength despite beginning a strength-building programme after recovering from the side strain.

Rana had previously suffered a shin sprain before sustaining the side strain during Bangladesh’s tour of Zimbabwe in July.

The latest setback has cast fresh doubt over his availability for the upcoming home two-match Test series against West Indies, which begins on October 28.
