India and Canada moved to operationalise key bilateral education agreements, with Union Minister Pralhad Joshi meeting senior Canadian envoys to advance joint research frameworks and leverage NEP 2020 provisions for international universities.
The high-level discussions centered on operationalising the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) agreed upon during summit-level engagements between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. A central focus of the dialogue was facilitating the entry and establishment of Canadian universities in India under the liberalised provisions of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, alongside expanding two-way student mobility and inter-institutional research networks.
Taking to social media platform X, Joshi highlighted that the talks underscored a shared dedication to expanding opportunities for scholars and research scholars across both countries. “Discussions focused on implementing the MoUs announced during the engagements between Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji and Canadian PM H.E. Mark Carney, revitalising higher education ties, expanding research partnershipsand student mobility, and facilitating Canadian universities’ entry into India under NEP 2020,” the Minister noted, reiterating the commitment to robust educational exchanges.
The meeting builds on momentum generated earlier this year when delegations representing 24 prominent Canadian universities engaged with Indian authorities to explore offshore branch campuses, credit-transfer frameworks, and collaborative doctoral programmes.
