Abishek Porel named in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad

Abishek Porel has been named in Bengal’s squad for their first Ranji Trophy match of the season, against Delhi in Kalyani.
The wicketkeeper-batter has not played any competitive cricket since the end of IPL 2026. In August, he was arrested in Kolkata in connection with a case involving allegations of rape and other sexual offences.

Last month, when he was named in the squad for the practice matches in Guwahati, an official from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) told Cricinfo: “His personal and legal matters are his own matters. If the situation changes, we will take the appropriate action. But for now there’s no issue from our side.”

Meanwhile, Abhimanyu Easwaran will continue leading the team, with Sudip Kumar Gharami as his deputy. The 17-member squad boasts a strong pace attack comprising Mohammed Shami, Mukesh Kumar and Akash Deep.
Shahbaz Ahmed, who picked up an injury during the Duleep Trophy, was not part of the squad.

Last season, Bengal topped their group and reached the semi-finals, where they lost to the eventual champions, Jammu and Kashmir.
