Former Sri Lankan all-rounder Chaminda Vaas is set for his maiden IPL coaching stint after being named Delhi Capitals’ fast bowling coach ahead of the 2027 edition.
Vaas, among Sri Lanka’s most successful bowlers with 355 Test wickets and 400 in ODIs, joins the new-look Capitals’ backroom staff helmed by head coach Sourav Ganguly. Earlier this week, DC named Yuvraj Singh as their assistant and batting coach. Vaas replaces Munaf Patel, who was the team’s bowling coach for the previous two seasons.
Vaas, 52, has previously coached Sri Lanka’s men’s team in the same capacity in three separate stints. His coaching debut came for New Zealand for a brief contract before he was appointed for the Sri Lankan side from 2013-15. In 2016, Vaas was contracted as Ireland’s bowling coach for the T20 World Cup before being re-hired by Sri Lanka.
Vaas has also played in the IPL, for Deccan Chargers between 2008-10 where he picked 18 wickets in 13 games for the franchise.
