NHRC, India takes suo motu cognizance of the reported dilapidated Government Primary School roof supported on benches after the collapse of the main pillar holding it in Darbhanga, Bihar – India Education | Latest Education News | Global Educational News


The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that in Kiratpur of Darbhanga district in Bihar, a Government Primary School roof continues to be temporarily supported by wooden benches, desks and bricks underneath after the main pillar holding it had collapsed three to four months ago. Reportedly, it is a risk to the safety of about 191 students and school staff.

The Commission has observed that the contents of the news report, if true, raise serious issues of human rights violations. Therefore, it has issued a notice to the Darbhanga District Magistrate, calling for a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.

According to the media report carried on 5th October 2026, the administration appears to be unaware of the situation.
