ALIGARH, October 9: Prof. Mohd. Nafees Ahmad Ansari, Chairperson, Department of Political Science, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed Proctor of the University for a period of two years or until further orders, whichever is earlier, with immediate effect.
Prof. Ansari has over 30 years of teaching and research experience. He joined the Department of Political Science, AMU, as a Lecturer in 1994 and became Professor in 2009. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.Phil. in Political Science, all from AMU. His areas of specialisation include Public Administration and Indian Government.
He has also served as Director of the Centre for Distance Education, AMU, and has contributed to the University’s academic and administrative work in several capacities. He has served as an elected member of the AMU Court, Academic Council and Executive Council, and has been associated with academic publishing as Editor of the Journal of Distance Education and Management Research and as a member of the editorial board of the Indian Journal of Politics.
His research interests span governance, administrative reforms, judicial review, decentralisation, corruption, gender equality, rural development and open and distance learning. He has authored and edited several books, including Administrative Setup of Sultanate of Oman, Education System and Marginalized Section of the Society, Women’s Empowerment through Education Policies, Rural Development and Employment Generation in India: Policies for Sustainable Development and Open and Distance Learning in India: National Perspective in Digital Age. He has supervised 22 Ph.D. scholars whose degrees have been awarded and has contributed to the development of course material and online learning resources.
