SA20: Allan Donald appointed JSK bowling coach

Former South Africa fast bowler Allan Donald has been appointed as the bowling coach of Joburg Super Kings, the franchise confirmed on Tuesday (October 13). The 59-year-old will work alongside compatriot Albie Morkel, who was appointed head coach, taking over from Stephen Fleming who stepped down post the 2026 season.

Donald brings with him a wealth of coaching experience dating back to 2007 when he served as a temporary bowling consultant for the England cricket team. He had a coaching stint with Warwickshire in 2008 before joining the New Zealand team as bowling coach at the 2011 World Cup. In July of that year, he joined Gary Kirsten’s team as South Africa’s bowling coach, a role he kept until the 2015 World Cup.

Donald has also served as a bowling coach in the IPL, notably with Royal Challengers Bengaluru. He moved to a similar role in the now-defunct Pune Warriors India in 2012 before being elevated to the head coach role the following season. After a stint coaching Kent, Donald also served as the pace bowling coach of Bangladesh and stayed in the role until the T20 World Cup of 2022.

Donald will be tasked with guiding the Joburg Super Kings to their first-ever SA20 title. At the recent auction, the franchise signed Faf du Plessis, Wiaan Mulder, Jason Rowles, Dayyan Galiem, Kieron Pollard, Blessing Muzarabani and Andries Gous.
