The best adult web series in Hindi on mainstream OTT are Mirzapur, Sacred Games, Paatal Lok, Delhi Crime, The Family Man, Asur, Rana Naidu, Inside Edge, Undekhi and Tabbar. All ten carry an A (adult) rating in India and stream on Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar or SonyLIV at the time of writing (October 2026).

“Adult” here means what the rating label means: these are mature crime dramas and thrillers with violence, strong language and dark themes, made for viewers aged 18 and above. They are not the kind of content that got 25 small apps blocked by the government in 2025. Each pick below lists the platform and rating we checked in October 2026.

How we picked these A-rated Hindi shows

We stuck to three filters. The show has to be a Hindi original on a big platform (Netflix, Prime Video, JioHotstar, SonyLIV or ZEE5). It has to carry an A rating in India, which Prime Video displays as 18+. And it has to be well reviewed, not just popular for shock value.

Ratings and platforms were checked on the Netflix India title pages and on the JustWatch India listings in October 2026. Streaming deals change, so check the app before you plan a weekend around a show.

1. Mirzapur (Prime Video)

Mirzapur is set in a small Uttar Pradesh town run by a crime family. Pankaj Tripathi plays Akhandanand “Kaleen Bhaiya” Tripathi, and Ali Fazal plays Guddu Pandit, a young man pulled into the family’s business who later turns against it. The show is about power, succession and revenge, and the violence is constant.

The third season arrived on 5 July 2024 with ten episodes, directed by Gurmmeet Singh and Anand Iyer. The cast also includes Shweta Tripathi Sharma, Rasika Dugal and Vijay Varma, whose recent stage moment went viral.

Why watch: sharp dialogue and some of the most quoted characters in Indian streaming.

2. Sacred Games (Netflix)

Sacred Games follows Sartaj Singh (Saif Ali Khan), a Mumbai police officer who gets a phone call from gangster Ganesh Gaitonde (Nawazuddin Siddiqui). Gaitonde warns him that the city has 25 days. The rest of the show cuts between the investigation and Gaitonde’s rise in the Mumbai underworld.

It is adapted from Vikram Chandra’s novel and was Netflix’s first Indian original series. Netflix India lists it with an A rating and two seasons, with Pankaj Tripathi, Kalki Koechlin and Radhika Apte in the cast.

Why watch: Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Gaitonde is one of the strongest performances on Indian OTT.

3. Paatal Lok (Prime Video)

Jaideep Ahlawat plays Hathi Ram Chaudhary, a tired Delhi police inspector who is handed cases nobody expects him to crack. The first season (2020) dealt with a failed attack on a TV journalist and the lives of the four accused. The second season, released in 2025, sends him to the North-East to investigate a high-profile murder.

The show is known for looking closely at caste, class and how the police and media work. Prime Video shows it with an 18+ label.

Why watch: Jaideep Ahlawat’s lead role and writing that does not offer easy answers.

4. Delhi Crime (Netflix)

Delhi Crime is a police procedural inspired by real cases. Shefali Shah plays DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, and Rasika Dugal and Rajesh Tailang play members of her team. The first season, about the investigation after the December 2012 Delhi gang rape, won the International Emmy for Best Drama Series in 2020.

Netflix India lists three seasons and an A rating. Huma Qureshi joined the cast for the third season in 2025. The tone is restrained, but the subject matter is heavy.

Best for: viewers who want a serious, slow-burn investigation drama.

5. The Family Man (Prime Video)

Manoj Bajpayee plays Srikant Tiwari, a middle-class Mumbai man who secretly works for an intelligence unit. The show balances terror plots and field missions with his home life with wife Suchitra (Priyamani) and two children. Sharib Hashmi plays his colleague and friend JK Talpade.

Created by Raj and DK, it now has three seasons. JustWatch India lists it on Prime Video with an A rating.

Why watch: it is the funniest show on this list without losing its tension.

6. Asur (JioHotstar)

Asur is a crime thriller that mixes forensic science with Indian mythology. Arshad Warsi plays Dhananjay Rajput, a CBI forensic expert, and Barun Sobti plays Nikhil Nair, a former colleague who left for the US. A killer who uses mythological ideas pulls both back into the same case.

It has two seasons, the second subtitled Rise of the Dark Side (2023). At the time of writing it streams on JioHotstar with an A rating, according to JustWatch India.

Why watch: a different kind of serial-killer story, with Arshad Warsi in a serious role.

7. Rana Naidu (Netflix)

Rana Daggubati plays Rana Naidu, the person rich and famous Mumbai clients call when they need a scandal handled. His life gets harder when his estranged father Naga Naidu, played by Venkatesh, comes out of prison. The show is adapted from the American series Ray Donovan.

It has two seasons and an A rating on Netflix. It drew criticism in 2023 for its strong language, so expect that going in.

Best for: fans of family-feud crime drama with a lot of attitude.

8. Inside Edge (Prime Video)

Inside Edge was Prime Video’s first Indian original series when it launched in 2017. It is set inside a T20 cricket league franchise and deals with match-fixing, betting, sponsors and the pressure on players. Vivek Oberoi plays a powerful businessman who pulls the strings of the league from behind the scenes.

The cast includes Angad Bedi, Siddhant Chaturvedi, Sayani Gupta and Amit Sial. It has three seasons of ten episodes each and an A rating.

Why watch: it is the only series on this list for viewers who follow the IPL closely.

9. Undekhi (SonyLIV)

Undekhi starts at a big Punjabi wedding in Manali, where a murder is accidentally caught on camera. A powerful family, led by Papaji (Harsh Chhaya) and his son Rinku (Surya Sharma), tries to cover it up, while police officer DCP Barun Ghosh (Dibyendu Bhattacharya) investigates.

The show has continued for several seasons on SonyLIV and is rated A. It is a tight, fast thriller with an excellent supporting cast.

Best for: binge-watchers who want short, gripping episodes.

10. Tabbar (SonyLIV)

Tabbar means family in Punjabi. Pavan Malhotra and Supriya Pathak play Omkar and Sargun, a middle-aged couple in Punjab who try to protect their sons after a crime happens at home. Each attempt to hide it makes things worse. Ranvir Shorey plays a local politician whose family is connected to the case.

It is a single season of eight episodes, about 40 minutes each, and is rated A on SonyLIV. It is the quietest show here, and the most unsettling.

Why watch: Pavan Malhotra’s performance as a father who keeps making the wrong choices.

Acclaimed Hindi shows that are not rated A

Some highly rated Hindi series are often counted as “adult” but carry lower age ratings. Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story (SonyLIV) is listed as U on JustWatch India. Kohrra (Netflix), Black Warrant (Netflix) and Aarya (JioHotstar) are rated U/A 16+. They suit older teenagers and adults, and they are worth watching if you want serious drama without the A label.

No ZEE5 original we checked carried an A rating at the time of writing, so ZEE5 does not appear in the main list. For lighter picks, see our list of Indian web series that ruled OTT in 2025.

What does the A rating on OTT actually mean?

Under India’s IT Rules, 2021, streaming platforms classify their own content into five age categories: U, U/A 7+, U/A 13+, U/A 16+ and A. An A title is meant only for adults. Platforms must show the rating and a content descriptor before a show starts, offer parental locks for U/A 13+ and above, and use age checks for A content.

In practice, that means you can lock A-rated shows behind a PIN on Netflix, Prime Video and JioHotstar. If the family shares one account, set a profile lock before you start any of the shows above.

Tips before you start an A-rated series

  • Read the content descriptor shown at the start of each episode. It tells you whether the episode has violence, language, drug use or sexual content.
  • Use a separate profile for adult viewing, and lock it with a PIN if children use the same TV.
  • Check the platform’s app before paying for a subscription. Shows move between platforms, as Asur did when Voot merged into JioCinema and then JioHotstar.
  • Start with a single-season show such as Tabbar if you are not sure the genre suits you.
