India’s Asian Games 2026 campaign enters its first full day of competition on Sunday, September 20, with the women’s cricket team taking on Bangladesh in the semi-finals at the Korogi Athletic Park in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Indian women’s cricket team will be aiming to book a place in the final in its bid to successfully defend its title. After an eight-wicket win over hosts Japan in the quarter-final, India will take on Bangladesh in the semis.
Indian athletes will also have medal opportunities in three sports – shooting, wushu and teqball – on Sunday.
Suraj Singh Mayanglambam will compete in the men’s changquan final in wushu, giving India their first medal opportunity of the day.
Teqball also has two medal matches featuring Indian athletes with Quimcy Dsouza facing Japan’s Yuina Sakamoto in the women’s singles bronze medal match. Quimcy Dsouza and Mohamed Anas Imran Beg also take on Vietnam’s Hoang Minh Tan Nguyen and Gia Nghi Trinh in the mixed doubles bronze medal match.
In shooting, Olympian Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Uttam Maskar and Vidarsa K Vinod are scheduled to compete in the women’s 10m air rifle individual qualification, followed by the team final.
The individual final is also scheduled later in the day, subject to qualification.
The Indian hockey teams will also begin their Asian Games campaigns. The women’s team faces Uzbekistan in Pool B, while the men’s team, also the defending champions, take on Indonesia in Pool A.
India’s table tennis, swimming, badminton and mixed martial arts campaigns will also kick off on Sunday.
