ALIGARH, October 8: The Department of Manafeul Aza (Physiology), Faculty of Unani Medicine, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a one-day national workshop on “Data Design and Data Analysis with Hands-on Skills”, bringing together faculty members, researchers, postgraduate scholars and students for practical training in research data management and statistical analysis.
The workshop attracted 62 participants, including chairpersons of various departments of studies, faculty members from AMU and other institutions, researchers, postgraduate scholars and students.
Capt. Prof. Farooq Ahmad Dar, Chairman of the Department of Manafeul Aza, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of developing practical research competencies. He emphasised that effective research requires not only a well-formulated research question but also systematic data design, accurate data entry, appropriate data cleaning and meaningful statistical analysis.
The Chief Guest, Prof. Mohammad Athar Ansari, Dean, Students’ Welfare, engaged the participants through anecdotes and highlighted the practical importance of properly designing and analysing research data. He emphasised that sound data practices enhance the credibility and usefulness of research.
Prof. Badrudduja Khan, Principal, A.K. Tibbiya College, encouraged the participants to continuously acquire new skills and strive for excellence in their academic and professional pursuits. Prof. Syeda Aamena Naaz, Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, stressed the growing importance of data science in clinical research and its potential to strengthen research in Unani medicine.
The first technical session, “The Art of Data Crafting and Designing Using Excel”, was conducted by Prof. Mohd Yusuf Ansari, Department of Petroleum Studies, AMU. The hands-on session covered data cleaning, filtering, Pivot Tables and other Excel tools useful for research data management.
The post-lunch session, “Data Analysis with SPSS”, was conducted by Prof. Dar. Participants were introduced to statistical analysis and received hands-on training in SPSS, gaining practical familiarity with converting organised research data into meaningful statistical results.
The workshop was supported by Dr Saba Zaidi, Dr Aisha Aijaz and Dr Atiya Samad. Dr Aisha Aijaz coordinated the first technical session, while Dr Atiya Samad coordinated the second.
Dr Saba Zaidi proposed the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to the dignitaries, resource persons, faculty members, organising team and participants.
The inaugural session was conducted by Dr Hafiz Iqtidar Ahmad, Organising Secretary.
The workshop concluded with participants gaining practical exposure to Excel-based data design and cleaning and SPSS-based data analysis.
