ALIGARH, October 8: Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) students organised a “University Blood Donation Drive” at the Faculty of Arts to promote voluntary blood donation and foster a spirit of human service and social responsibility on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
The drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and students. The initiative aimed to encourage members of the university community to donate blood voluntarily and contribute to its availability for patients in need.
AMU Registrar, Prof. Aasim Zafar was the Chief Guest. Prof Mohammad Rizwan Khan, Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. Mehtab Alam Ansari, Chairman, Department of Library and Information Science; and Prof. Mohammad Shamim, Chairman, Department of TB and Chest graced as Guests of Honour.
After donating blood, Prof. Aasim Zafar emphasised the importance of voluntary blood donation and said that donated blood can save precious lives. He noted that blood transcends religious and social identities, as the blood donated by one person can be used to save the life of another irrespective of their religion or identity.
Prof. Zafar, who said that he regularly donates blood, congratulated the organisers for holding the drive at the University and expressed the hope that the initiative would be successful and that the donated blood would help save lives.
The drive was coordinated by Inzamam-ul-Haq, Research Scholar, Department of Library and Information Science. The organisers urged students, research scholars, teachers and other members of the university community to participate in voluntary blood donation, describing it as not only a form of social service but also a direct contribution towards saving the life of someone in need.
