Anvay Dravid, younger son of former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid, smashed 151 off 100 deliveries to guide Karnataka past Gujarat’s daunting target of 358 in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy Elite tournament.

Leading Karnataka in the competition, Anvay shouldered much of the batting responsibility alongside Dhruv Krishnan to steer his side to a five-wicket win.

Anvay, 17, is leading a 16-member Karnataka team in the tournament, which started in Visakhapatnam earlier this month. His appointment as captain comes 10 months after he made his India U19 debut against Afghanistan in Sri Lanka last November.

In Karnataka’s previous game against Delhi, Anvay smashed 85 off just 41 deliveries, combining with Rohith Reddy, Nitish Arya and Dhruv Krishnan to help his team post a mammoth 418 batting first.

After being asked to bat first, Gujarat were reduced to 19/1 in the seventh over before Shaurya Pancholi and Ved Patel steadied the innings with a 66-run partnership for the second wicket.

Gujarat soon found themselves at 100/3 before Kush Patel and Sameer Bhandari added 40 runs for the fourth wicket. After the former was dismissed in the 31st over, Sameer and Yash Panjwani built a 217-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take Gujarat to a big score of 357.

In the chase, Rohith and Nitish added 30 runs for the opening stand before the latter was dismissed in the sixth over. Rohith and Krishnan then added 33 runs for the second wicket before the former was dismissed in the 12th over.

Krishnan and Anvay then built a match-winning 204-run partnership for the third wicket to take Karnataka closer to the target. After the former was dismissed in the 38th over, Anvay added 61 runs with Aniketh Reddy for the fourth wicket before losing his wicket in the 44th over.

Aniketh and Tejas Reddy eventually took Karnataka over the line.

Anvay and Aaryavir Sehwag, son of former India opener Virender Sehwag, are expected to be considered for selection for the U19 Asia Cup in November.

Aaryavir, who also smashed a hundred on Friday, recently made his debut for India’s U19 team.
