Sunny Deol praises Ranbir Kapoor’s Ramayana in an Instagram video, calling it better than Hollywood films.
Sunny Deol has given Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana: Part One a glowing review after watching the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer in theatres. The actor, who essays Lord Hanuman in the two-part mythological drama, shared a video on Instagram praising the film’s visual effects, performances and overall presentation. He went a step further by comparing the film with Hollywood productions, claiming that Ramayana was not merely on par with them but even better.
In the video, Sunny urged every Indian to watch the film on the big screen. The actor appeared particularly impressed by how convincingly the filmmakers had recreated the world of the epic, saying that the visual effects transported viewers into the period in which the story unfolds. He also commended the entire cast for their performances.
Sunny Deol Says Ramayana Is Better Than Hollywood Films
Sunny began the video by revealing that he had just finished watching Ramayana and was thoroughly impressed with the experience. Encouraging audiences across the country to watch it, the actor said he believed the film could comfortably compete with major Hollywood productions.
“I have just watched Ramayana, and I really, really liked it. I want every Indian to go and watch Ramayana because this film is no less than any Hollywood film. In fact, I would say it is even better than them,” Sunny said in the video.
The actor’s remarks were particularly emphatic when he discussed the technical execution of the film. Rather than limiting his appreciation to its scale, Sunny spoke about the immersive quality of the visuals and how effectively they brought the mythological setting to life.
His comparison with Hollywood also comes after the film’s extensive use of visual effects became a major point of discussion surrounding its theatrical release.
‘You Won’t Even Realise You’re Not In That World’
Elaborating on what impressed him about the film, Sunny singled out its special effects for creating a convincing portrayal of the period. According to him, the visual presentation allows audiences to become completely absorbed in the story.
“The special effects are such that you won’t even realise that you are not in that world. The film transports you to that period, and every actor has done a wonderful job,” he said.
Sunny’s appreciation for Ramayana’s visual effects is consistent with his earlier comments about the project. In December 2024, while discussing the ambitious production, the actor had expressed confidence that its technical execution would make the events unfolding on screen appear believable rather than artificially created.
Having now watched the completed film, Sunny reiterated his admiration for the visual experience while also acknowledging the work of his fellow actors.
Sunny Deol Makes An Earnest Appeal To Audiences
Towards the end of the video, Sunny made a direct appeal to viewers to visit theatres and watch Ramayana. However, he immediately corrected himself while describing it as a request, insisting that he was asking audiences with a sense of personal conviction because he genuinely liked the film.
“That’s why I request you. Actually, I’m not requesting you. I’m asking you as a matter of right because the film is genuinely very good. Please go and watch it. Jai Shri Ram,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, Ramayana: Part One released worldwide on November 5, 2026. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari and produced by Namit Malhotra, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor as Rama, Sai Pallavi as Sita, Yash as Ravana and Ravie Dubey as Lakshman.
Sunny, who portrays Hanuman, is introduced through a brief sequence during the film’s closing credits, setting up his character’s involvement in the next instalment. The makers also unveiled a glimpse of his portrayal through a Hanuman Chalisa video released alongside the film.
