A protest broke out at the Government Secondary School (Hindi medium) in Shivganj, Ward No 7, Narkatiaganj, on Tuesday, after female students raised a complaint of inappropriate physical contact against a teacher. The students described the alleged conduct as “bad touch” and said that the matter had been reported earlier.
The teacher, identified as Sanjay Pandey, was accused by some female students of inappropriate physical contact. The allegations, however, have not been established. School principal Shakuntala rejected the complaints and described them as baseless.
The allegations came to light during a wider protest by students at the school over the quality of the Mid-Day Meal. According to the students, the food served at the school was often of poor quality.
On Tuesday, students refused to eat the meal and threw their plates in protest, leading to disorder on the school premises.
After information about the protest reached the authorities, a team of the 112 police service arrived at the school. The police spoke to the students and brought the situation under control.
The complaints regarding the teacher have now been taken up for inquiry by the Education Department. Block Education Officer Sanjay Kumar Singh said that the allegations made against the teacher would be examined along with the complaint regarding the quality of the Mid-Day Meal.
Singh said that if the inquiry found any teacher at fault, action would be taken according to the rules. He also said that a teacher found guilty could be removed.
The allegations made by the female students remain subject to investigation. The principal has denied them, while the students have maintained their complaint. The inquiry by the Education Department is expected to establish the facts.
The incident has therefore brought the conduct of a teacher and the quality of food served at the school before the authorities. For now, the allegations remain unproven and the final position will depend on the outcome of the inquiry.
