Earlier, there was a lot of buzz around how Shah Rukh Khan’s King would be able to compete on the big screen with Hollywood’s most anticipated films releasing mere days before Siddharth Anand’s action movie. Both Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part 3 are going to be released on December 17 and 8, respectively.
Out of all the gigantic films that are releasing in December, King is a Bollywood film competing against three much-awaited Hollywood flicks. However, it is not holding back in its screen demand.
King Is on the Hunt for the Most Screens

Marvel Studios
Disney has already started booking screens in India for the upcoming release of Avengers: Doomsday, and Shah Rukh Khan’s King doesn’t want to fall back in an already tough game. As per Bollywood Hungama, the Deepika Padukone film is eyeing a number of screens that is higher than Doomsday, Dune: Part 3 and the final Jumanji instalment combined.
“Disney is aiming to sign a strict contract, which promises a specified number of shows for their superhero saga on Christmas Day. The exhibitors too are bullish on the film, and are figuring out how to ensure fair showcasing to the Hollywood Biggie in the Holiday period.”
“King marks Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the big screen after three years, and the idea is to showcase the film on every possible screen. Pen Marudhar has reached out to exhibitors to ensure a wide release for King on December 24. They have asked them to work out a showcasing strategy that prioritises King over Avengers, Dune and Jumanji combined, as ‘King Akela Hi Kaafi Hai‘. It’s going to be a war between Disney and Pen Marudhar, as both parties are determined to secure the widest possible showcasing.”
Unlike the Hollywood releases, the SRK action starrer is going to release a week later. This would give it a Christmas release on December 24 and a week for the Marvel film and Denis Villeneuve flick to attract a crowd. At the same time, it would let fans enjoy all the movies releasing in a short span.
However, the film is looking to grab more screens than the three English releases combined. This would give it a major advantage in India as compared to the rampage that Doomsday and the other films will cause across the globe. That being said, SRK’s fan following is the greatest in India, and regardless of the competition, he is bound to attract a crowd.
