ALIGARH, September 19: The Non-Residential Students’ Centre (NRSC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised a two-day calligraphy workshop, ‘HARF’, on September 16 and 17, introducing students to different forms of calligraphy through hands-on sessions.
The workshop was inaugurated by Prof. Surendra Kumar Mishra, Provost, NRSC, in the presence of Dr. M.A. Bilal Hussain, Club President, and Ahmed Siddiqui, Club Secretary. The first day featured sessions on calligraphy basics by Dr. Adil Karim, Maulana Azad Library; Sulus calligraphy by Dr. Muhammad Ayub Akram, K.N. Nizami Centre of Quranic Studies; and Gothic calligraphy by Dr. Abdullah Faizul Hasan, Hobbies Club Secretary. The second day covered composition and ornamental design by Dr. Adil Karim and canvas calligraphy by Dr. Abdullah Faizul Hasan.
Participants were provided brush pens, calligraphy pens, practice sheets, canvases, brushes and paints, and were allowed to retain their finished canvases.
At the valedictory session, convened by Prof. Surendra Kumar Mishra, Dr. Hifzur R Siddique and Dr. Abdullah Faizul Hasan, welcomed the participants and distributed certificates to all 70 participants. Special Guest Dr. Moinuddin shared his personal memories of calligraphy, while Prof. Asia Sultana appreciated the strong participation of girls in the workshop.
The programme was supported by Mohammad Junaid, Editor, Hall Magazine; Aiman Hafiz Khan, Cultural Secretary, NRSC; and Ziauddin Ahmad, Literary Secretary, NRSC Club. Amber Zaidi and Ankur Srivastav of the NRSC Provost Office assisted in the programme. Usmaan Nadeem Qazi contributed as a PR team member, while Bilal Faizul Hasan, Maha Faisal and Ariz worked as volunteers.
