ALIGARH, September 25: The Medical Education Unit (MEU), Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), organised an interactive, hands-on workshop on “Training the Trainers: Designing and Conducting Simulation-Based Training” at the JNMC Skills Lab.
The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Faiza Khan, USA, as the lead facilitator, along with Prof. Tamkin Khan. It aimed to equip faculty members with practical skills to integrate simulation into undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
The workshop covered the principles of simulation-based medical education, scenario design, the simulation cycle, effective debriefing and the use of simulation for teaching clinical skills, communication, teamwork and decision-making. The participants also engaged in scenario development and debriefing exercises.
Emphasising that simulation-based education need not depend on expensive equipment, the workshop highlighted how deliberate practice, reflective learning and structured teaching can be effectively used even in resource-limited settings. Simulation provides learners with a safe environment to practise, make mistakes, reflect and improve before encountering real-life clinical situations.
The programme was held under the guidance of Prof. Mohammad Khalid, Dean, Faculty of Medicine and Convenor, MEU. Prof. Tamkin Khan, Coordinator, MEU, coordinated the workshop with MEU team members Dr. Nasreen Noor, Dr. Shagufta Moin, Dr. Fatima Khan, Dr. Sufia Naseem and Dr. Salman Shah.
Faculty members from different departments involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching participated in the workshop.
