The government has reconstituted the Press Council of India (PCI) with the nomination of 13 journalists, including six editors and seven working journalists from other categories.The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued the notification on October 7, 2026, under the Press Council Act, 1978.The latest nominations include journalists from different parts of the country and cover both the editors category and working journalists other than editors.
Six editors nominated to PCI
Under the Working Journalists, Editors category, the government has nominated six members. They are:
- Pradeep Kumar Jain
- Sayed Raza Husain Rizvi
- Ankur Dua
- Aparna Shukla
- Raj Parwana/Narender Singh
- Vinod Bajpai
The notification said the nominations have been made by the Central Government under the provisions of the Press Council Act, 1978.“In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (a) of sub-section (3) and sub-section (5) of section 5 read with sub-section (1) of section 6 of the Press Council Act, 1978, the Central Government hereby nominates the following members to the Press Council of India,” it said.
Seven working journalists also nominated
The government has also nominated seven journalists under the Working Journalists, Other Than Editors category.They are:
- Vinod Kohli
- Geetartha Pathak
- Prajnananda Chaudhuri
- Kingshuk Pramanik
- C K Nayak
- Prasanna Kumar Mohanty
- Bijoy Kakchingtabam
The Press Council of India is headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai (retd). The statutory autonomous body was established under the Press Council Act, 1978.The PCI’s main role is to preserve the freedom of the press and maintain and improve the standards of newspapers and news agencies in the country.The council includes representatives from different sections of the media as well as members nominated from Parliament and other fields. The latest notification adds six editors and seven other working journalists to its composition.The government has issued the latest nominations as part of the reconstitution of the council.
