Chennai, 19 September 2026: Hindustan Institute of Technology & Science (HITS) successfully hosted its 17th Convocation Ceremony, celebrating the academic achievements of its graduating students. A total of 2,732 students were conferred degrees during the ceremony, marking a significant milestone in their academic journey.
The ceremony was graced by Justice M.M. Sundresh, Judge, Supreme Court of India, as the Chief Guest. The event was presided over by Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese, Chancellor in the presence of Dr. Ashok George Verghese, Pro Chancellor; Dr. Aby Sam, Executive Director; Mr. Enid Jacob Verghese, Associate Director; and Dr. Vikas Misra, Vice Chancellor.
Of the graduating cohort, 659 were postgraduate students and 67 were Ph.D. scholars, while the remaining graduates were from undergraduate programmes. Ninety-two students were recognised as Rank Holders for their exemplary academic performance. The graduating batch also included 27 foreign nationals, who received their graduation certificates at the ceremony.
As part of the convocation ceremony, HITS conferred Honorary Doctorates upon Mr. Gokul V. Subramaniam, President, Intel India, and Dr. Oscar Concessao, Architect, Oscar & Ponni Rahul Architects, in recognition of their distinguished contributions and achievements in their respective fields.
Addressing the gathering, Justice Mr M. M. Sundresh said, “My advice to the students is that whatever you are or whatever you achieve, you should always remember that their contribution is the barest minimum because you are the creation of your family, friends, and every other being associated with you in different ways. Until now, we are all the beneficiaries of the world, and we should find a way to give it back. Similarly, you should also remember your alma mater, especially your professors. Life is a constant process of learning, and the time you spent at this institution will help you immensely.”
Dr. Anand Jacob Verghese said, “A convocation is not merely a celebration of academic achievement, but the beginning of a new chapter filled with opportunities, responsibilities and possibilities. At HITS, we strive to equip our students with the knowledge, skills and values needed to navigate a rapidly changing world and make a meaningful contribution to society. As our graduates’ step into their professional journeys, I encourage them to remain curious, embrace challenges, uphold integrity and continue learning. I am confident that they will carry forward the values of HITS and make a positive impact in their chosen fields.”
HITS, which has entered its 41st year since inception and completed 18 years as a Deemed to be University, continues to expand its academic offerings across diverse disciplines. The university currently offers 84 undergraduate programmes, 62 postgraduate programmes, five diploma-level programmes, along with Ph.D. programmes across areas including Technology, Arts, Science, Law, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Humanities.
The university also highlighted its continued focus on employability and industry engagement. During the 2025–26 academic year, 257 companies participated in campus recruitment, with 85.60% of students securing job offers. The average CTC stood at ₹4.75 lakh per annum, while the highest CTC reached ₹12 lakh per annum. Leading recruiters included Amazon, Oracle, Microsoft, Siemens, Cognizant, Capgemini, TCS and Wipro.
On this eventful day, Hindustan Centre for Future Skills (HCFS) was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice M. M. Sundresh. HCFS is a transformative initiative established in collaboration with the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and Ethnotech Academy. Conceived to bridge the gap between academic learning and industry expectations, the Centre provides students with access to state-of-the-art technology infrastructure, industry-led training and globally recognised certifications.
The Centre focuses on emerging and high-demand domains such as Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, Cyber Security, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR/VR), Robotic Process Automation, Industrial Automation and Semiconductor Design. The objective of the Centre for Future Skills is to empower students to excel in an increasingly technology-driven world while enhancing their employability, innovation capabilities and readiness for the careers of tomorrow.
Through specialised Centres of Excellence developed in association with leading global technology companies, students gain hands-on experience, practical exposure and industry-relevant competencies. The Centre also offers opportunities for internships, capstone projects, certification programmes and skill-development initiatives aligned with national and global workforce requirements. Faculty members also benefit from direct engagement with industry experts, ensuring that teaching and learning remain contemporary and application-oriented.
