Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh join forces again for Delhi Capitals in IPL

by BollywoodNewsAndMovie

Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh are set to work together once more, this time from the dugout, after Delhi Capitals confirmed the former India all-rounder as their assistant and batting coach ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League season.

The move gives the franchise a World Cup winner in its support staff and hands Yuvraj the first formal coaching role of his career.

Yuvraj, who is 44, played 304 ODIs, 40 Tests and 58 T20Is for India and won several World Cups during that time.

He has also spent recent years working with a number of established and emerging Indian batters, although this appointment is the first time he has taken up a formal position, and it will also mark his debut as an IPL coach.

Delhi are not a new name for him. In 2015, the franchise, then known as the Delhi Daredevils, bought him for a record Rs 16 crore, which made him the most expensive player in the history of the league at that point. He turned out in all 14 of the team’s matches that season, so the return carries a certain familiarity for both sides.

Yuvraj Singh on joining forces with Sourav Ganguly

Yuvraj Singh began by describing the appointment as the start of a new phase in his life, and he stressed that his history with the franchise made the opportunity feel special.

“I am excited to begin a new chapter in my life with the Delhi Capitals. I have an old association with the franchise and know the owners well, which makes this a special opportunity for me,” he said.

“I’m also looking forward to teaming up with Dada, this time as coaches. Coaching is something I am truly passionate about, and I cannot wait to get started with this extremely talented squad. I’m sure it’s going to be an exciting journey for me, and I look forward to contributing to the team’s success.”

The change in the support staff follows an agreement between the franchise’s co-owners, GMR Sports India Pvt Ltd and Jindal South West (JSW) Sports, which was reached after IPL 2024. Under that arrangement, each party will run the franchise’s operations in alternating two-year cycles.

Ganguly was named JSW’s director of cricket in 2024. He was Delhi’s mentor for a season in IPL 2019, before he became the BCCI president, and he served as head coach of Pretoria Capitals in SA20 2025, which was his first foray into coaching. He has also been closely involved with the Delhi team in the Women’s Premier League.
