The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning to conduct a match between India and a Rest of the World XI to mark the celebration of its 100th anniversary. After the Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Mumbai on Friday, the BCCI stated in a release that the board’s general body has initiated the process for the BCCI centenary celebrations in 2028.
The centenary will be celebrated through a year-long programme, commencing in December 2027 and continuing through 2028, marking a landmark milestone in the history of Indian cricket.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, the board is planning to form a committee that will oversee the celebrations, and one of the suggestions discussed during the meeting was a potential India vs Rest of the World match.
As per available information, the discussions are at the earliest stages as of now, and it remains to be seen how the board plans the celebrations.
The ICC World XI have played a total of nine international matches so far, of which one ODI was against Asia XI in January 2005, three ODIs and one Test were against Australia in October 2005, three T20Is were against Pakistan in September 2017, and one T20I was against the West Indies in May 2018 at Lord’s.
The Indian team is yet to play an international cricket match against the ICC World XI.
